Puppy Training

We start our puppies from the very beginning with socializing so that they will be easy for you to train. We use plactic bag noises, the vacuum, and just regular life chaos to desensitize them. Our puppies are in our living room right next to a main walk path in the house so they see people, other dogs and even our big Maine Coon cat on a regular basis. We start them with a sleeping side and a potty side in their pen so that they get used to having to get up and go somewhere else to potty (they naturally don't want to potty in their bed). I use astro turf grass patch so that it is an easy transition for them to understand going potty outside in their new home and environment. Once our puppies are old enough to run around and play we let them explore more and more of the house. While letting them comfortably develop we also will teach them submission by laying belly up, teaching them not to bite our fingers and toes but toys, and holding still while getting their nails clipped.

The biggest thing with training your puppy once you bring it home is consistency and exposure. Bring your puppy with you places, let your puppy meet new people and dogs. Be consistent in potty training by taking your puppy out to potty as often as possible: usually upon waking up, after they've eaten, and after a wild playtime. Be consistent with teaching your puppy not to chew on your fingers and toes for teething by telling it "no" "no bite" and give them a chew toy that is good for a teething puppy. Even though your puppy is little and cute now, imagine any of the behaviors on a grown dog and start now to train your puppy not to jump on you or others, not to bark and whine. Reward the good behaviors and be patient.
